Next week's newsletter

Parents, please remember that we will be out of school on Friday, October 21, and Monday, October 24, for the fall holiday break. I hope you and your children will enjoy the long weekend, but please also use the time to have your children read and review their multiplication facts.

Here is a look ahead at next week's newsletter. Please be sure to study the spelling words and vocabulary words with your children. With the vocabulary words, they need to have a good understanding of the word and know it's definition. Try reviewing the words then having your child use each word correctly in a sentence for practice. This help help make sure that they understand the word and what it means.

(Note: A PDF file of the weekly newsletter for viewing, downloading and/or printing can be found here.)

From the Teacher:

In math class this week, we will begin Chapter 6 in the math book. We will be counting bills and coins, comparing money amounts and making change. In Grammar we will be discussing how to correctly read and write abbreviations. In third grade we combine Social Studies and Science into a block and alternate subjects each week. This week we will be reading and discussing Chapter 4 in our Communities books about celebrating different cultures, hemispheres, celebrating a community’s past, and celebrations across our nation. We will still be reading the story, The Graves Family, by Patricia Polacco this month and discussing the importance of developing good, healthy friendships and respect for others. If you have access to the Internet at home, you can research the author, Patricia Polacco to learn more about her writing and books in order to encourage the students to read more of her books.
