· Please remember to collect Box Tops for Education.

· April Reading Logs will be due Friday, April 27th. We will be expecting a total of 240 minutes on this reading log. It only counts if each entry has parent initials. These are a Reading grade each month. Please be sure you help your child complete the required 60 minutes per week.

· We do have an April Math Calendar for this month. These are due by Tuesday, May 1st. Please be sure your child completes these before that date. It will count as a Math grade.

Spiders and Their Webs

Lesson 27 Vocabulary

Please study these definitions with your child and practice using each word in a sentence. The students will be given a quiz on Friday that requires them to correctly match each vocabulary word to a sentence or definition.

1. justice – If you treat others fairly, you are showing justice.

2. task – A task is a job that needs to be done.

3. elaborate – Something that is elaborate is decorated with many details.

4. inventive –A person who creates or solves something in a new way is inventive.

5. prey – An animal that is hunted for food is prey.

6. shallow – Something shallow is not very deep.

7. strands – Long, thin pieces of something are strands.

8. social – A social animal is one that lives in a group with other animals of the same kind.

9. spiral – A spiral shape curls around and around in a circle.

10. reels – A person reels something in by winding up a line attached to it.

From the Teacher:

In math class this week, we will discuss Chapter 26 which is about adding and subtracting fractions. In Grammar this week, we will be discussing adverbs and having a quiz on these on Thursday. In Science class this week, we will continue our AMSTI Chemical unit. For the month of April, we will be reading the book, Poetry for Young People by Langston Hughes and completing activities and poetry related to this book. If you have access to the Internet at home, you can research the author to learn more about him and his books.
