Newsletter

This week we will have a strong focus on math. Please review math materials with your child, including skills that were taught earlier in the year, as we prepare for the Math Benchmark Test later this month.

® February Reading Logs will be due Fri., Feb. 24. We expect a total of 240 minutes on this log. Each entry must be initialed by a parent.

Math Benchmark Topics:

These items will be covered on the Benchmark Test:

1. Compare, order, and write numbers through 9999 in expanded form.

2. Addition and subtraction problems and word problems

3. Number and shape patterns

4. Multiplication (i.e. 23x9 or 578x6)

5. Use coins to make change up to $1.00

6. Elapsed time on a clock and a calendar

7. Identifying points, angles, rays, lines, line segments, parallel lines, perpendicular lines, and intersecting lines

8. Use a coordinate grid to describe horizontal and vertical movements

9. Measure length in centimeters

10. Division (i.e. 36 divided by 6)

Lesson 20 “Backstage with Chris and Casey”

1. criticize – When you criticize something, you tell what you think is wrong with it.

2. dialogue – Conversation between people is called dialogue.

3. immerse – To immerse oneself is to become very involved in something.

4. mandatory – Something that is mandatory is required.

5. rehearse – To rehearse is to practice for a performance.

6. versions – If there are different versions of a story, the story is told in different ways.

7. camaraderie – People have camaraderie when they are comfortable with each other and spend a lot of time together.

8. flawless – If a performance is flawless, there are no mistakes in it.

9. tragic – A tragic event is something that is both sad and horrible.

10. limp – When something is limp, it is too weak to move or support itself.
