Newsletter

This week in math we will continue to focus on geometry. Your child needs to be able to identify various angles, lines and others. Please review the below definitions for our math focus this week, and review examples with your child. Also, please remember to continue reviewing the multiplication facts, as well as the vocabulary words and definitions, each night as we will be testing on those.

® Multiplication Fact Quizzes have begun! Students will be testing on 0-12s multiplication facts. Students must score a 100 in order to master each set of facts.

Weekly Math Focus:

Geometry—Students must be able to identify each of the following:

*line—a straight path extending infinitely in both directions

*point—an exact location in space

*line segment—a part of a line with two endpoints

*ray—a part of a line with one endpoint that continues in one direction

*angle—two rays with a common endpoint

*right angle—an angle that measures 90 degrees

*acute angle—an angle less than 90 degrees

*obtuse angle—an angle greater than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees
*intersecting lines
—lines that cross and form angles
*perpendicular lines
—lines that cross to form right angles
*parallel lines
—lines that never cross

Vocabulary Words

Lesson 18 “Me and Uncle Romie”

1. dull – When something is not shiny, it is dull.

2. towers – Something that is very tall towers over shorter things.

3. masterpiece – A great piece of art can be called a masterpiece.

4. heritage – Memories and traditions of your family’s past are part of your heritage.

5. ruined – If something is ruined, it is no longer any good.

6. crept – If you crept, you moved slowly and carefully so that you wouldn’t be seen or heard.

7. glorious – If something is so wonderful that you can hardly believe it, it is glorious.

8. memory – A memory is something you remember.

9. streak – To streak is to move very quickly from one place to another.

10. yanked – If you yanked something, you gave it a quick, hard pull.
